It's now time for some reflection. Time to see how we all did in the recently concluded Fantasy Basketball Season. It's also time to give back. Points in the Paint has given one of its millions... and millions... of fans a chance to lay down some ultimate smack. Posting your post-fantasy-season thoughts on a blog for the world to see and appreciate sure beats that smack talk bubble beside your team's name over on Yahoo.
Here are some reflections of a PitP fan and long-time friend, Chay Tan. He regularly consulted with me personally throughout the season with regards to his team's pick-ups and trades. Whether it was through instant or text messaging or even a cell phone call at work (you were lucky, I was already on my lunch break); the manager of team Atomic Dustbin made sure we were by his side almost every step of the way.

While I personally do not want to take the credit, to what Chay claims was half of his success this season; I'm just happy to have contributed in one way or another.
So without further ado, here's a PitP fan's year-end reflection...

Chay:
I am in a 12 manager league called FSC and Beyond. FSC since at one time we all used to work at Fairchild Semiconductors Cebu, Beyond since some of us have moved on from it. (Including me :D )
My thoughts below will take you on how I formed my team from the draft and straight to my championship in this league this year.
When the draft started I was at 9th pick, at that point yahoo was still ranking Wade at no. 8 and I was hoping someone would skip him. (sometimes you want your favorite player to fall to you)
The guy before me took Garnett and I definitely picked Wade. It was a stretch as he did come from an injury but I was willing to put my faith on my favorite player.
I definitely tanked TO’s after picking Wade and this was suitable for me as I decided to aim high for 6 stats (FG%/PTS/REB/AST/STL/BLK) this year and do marginally well on one more.(3PTM)
Besides of all the stats the least prioritized for me are the TO’s.
Here lies the beauty of H2H format as it allows you to scrap at 2-3 stats and concentrate on the ones you like.
I figured winning on the difficult to get stats (AST/STL/BLK) ensures my winnings by a lot as people normally stack one way in either STL or BLK but not in both. (considering how people gravitate to the small ball/big ball concept)
I did not want to nitpick too much on the numbers, seeing as there are no prediction profiles for how a player will do each season, I was taking note of how I was doing by just mentally leveling the stats in my head into certain ranges.
Thought line.
Pts (good), Reb (lacking), FG% (Okay), AST (decent), STL (good), BLK(so and so), 3’s(lacking).
I got lucky again on round 2 by going for Dwight Howard assuring me of tanking the FT%. stat line.
The next 7 rounds yielded, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Lamarcus Aldridge, Emeka Okafor, Raymond Felton, Al Harrington and Rajon Rondo in that order.
Going back to the thought line.
Pts (very good), Reb (very good), FG% (good), AST (very good), STL (very good), BLK(very good), 3’s(decent).
As the season progressed I kept the top 9 picks intact and rotated the last three with some good pick ups.
Being mindful about the stats I wanted to concentrate on. Jameer Nelson (enhance my AST/3’s and STL) DJ Agustin, Eric Gordon and Brook Lopez to name a few.
Trades, for me, contribute to a lot of fun in fantasy basketball. The thought of making one makes you feel so much like a team manager.
Though I always aim to generate a trade with both parties going away happy and helped.
At season half point I decided to enhance my team further in the big man stats particularly in FG by giving away Agustin and Aldridge for Tim Duncan.
The home stretch prior to the playoffs allowed me to go for Tony Parker and Chris Bosh while giving up Felton, Gordon and Brook Lopez.
Trades like this allowed me to have a Swiss knife spot which I fill with a player on the basis of need and performance. In this case I got two towards seasons end.
At years end I reviewed how I did in each stat and I was pretty satisfied considering the arbitrary (thought line) method I ranked my players during the draft.
Turns out it was a working and rather satisfying way to win a championship in the end.
Some Love for all the peeps.
For this championship I would like to thank the players who were on my team (even Yao Ming who played for me only on the last day of the season) and most especially to Points in the Paint for all the trade advice and sudden Instant Messages at work for hot pickups. (It’s good to have a friend who is a fantasy basketball blogger)
